Each port or military base where Radiation Portal Monitors, or RPMs, are installed has unique operational needs and configurations. PNNL has taken commercially available systems and equipment, adapted and integrated multiple technologies for each individual port, and conducted proof-of-concept and validation testing of the systems before they are deployed in the field.

At this facility, RPM systems and ancillary equipment can be configured identically to port designs and then used to simulate field conditions for testing and evaluation. Furthermore, it is necessary to troubleshoot and predict failure modes of the fielded systems. The Interdiction Technology and Integration Laboratory (ITIL), a formal testing facility, expertly delivers these important testing capabilities.

This testing and evaluation facility is also home to other important U.S. government programs for performance testing of physical protection system components and integrated systems.
